the gig is rigged

Uber and Lyft, the very platforms promising economic independence, were exploiting workers with little regard for their safety or well-being

what I learned driving Uber & lyft for 6 years

  • We were classified independent contractors and had no way to affect our pay

  • Gig companies refuse to assume responsibility for their drivers sick pay or disability, shifting the cost onto other and smaller companies, and finally you - the tax payer

  • Gig companies drafted and passed a bill (prop 22) - they now regulate the very labour they offer (!)

  • Gig drivers can be deactivated for any reason with no appeal process

What can you do?

  • Join RDU or your local union efforts

  • Engage your passengers—many believe you're receiving a more significant share of the fare

  • Speak up—talk to friends and local politicians

  • Use Social Media

Protesting Prop 22 in San Diego

the gig economy is not just about drivers

Both Amazon and Spotify are underpaying the people that make their existence possible.
As it continues to grow, it threatens to consume more traditional jobs, widening the gap between social classes.

In memory of Uber drivers who died on the job

Let's honk for justice and remember, we don’t need to get rid of the companies - only the exploitation mentality!
